5-7-09 Sunrise E Letter

Mother’s Day!

We’ll celebrate this Sunday!  At our services we’ve honor all of the Mothers and have gifts for some very special Mothers—the newest Mother, the Mother with the most experience (in other words, the oldest Mom!) and the Mother with the most family with her in worship.  We’ll look forward to a special time of honoring Mothers!  See you this weekend in worship.

Blessings,
Marv Vose

P.S.      I am more confident that you can click on Newsletter or go to http://www.sunriseumc.com/communicator-from-email and actually get to the newsletter.  We have been having some technological problems, but I believe those are solved.  The new, May edition is now on-line.  And it looks great!
If you will go to my article, you will see that the Building Committee is seeking your input.  Just go to the article and find out how you can share your hopes and dreams for ministry at the new facility.

Wow!  What an Easter!

Even with the snow, we had a grand celebration of the Resurrection of Christ!
Thanks to all of our musicians, ushers, greeters, worship leaders and other workers who helped all of us worship!  You made it a grand day and worthy of celebrating God's great gift to each of us.

Thanks to all of you who invited or brought guests. We had 64 first-time guests who signed in.  Not bad for a wet, snowy day!
As you'll remember, we ran a video about the upcoming Galveston mission trip.  The response to that was so positive that we ran out of mission packets! If you wanted one, but didn't get one, please contact Matt Lurz, our youth director, at MattL@sunriseumc.com.  He'll be glad to get you the information.

This week, we'll continue the series of messages we started on Easter-Alive! We'll talk about doing some self-examination.  How much of Christ's life do we really have?  Are we missing out and just barely getting by?  Does it overflow?  And, if you don't have as much as you want, we'll start talking about how it can happen and one sure-fire way it CANNOT happen.

See you in worship this week!

Blessings,
Marv Vose

We are now in Holy Week, a time when we remember the last events of Jesus' life that led up to His Crucifixion.  His death was the prelude to the resurrection and his sacrifice was the vehicle to our new life.  Because of that great gift, we celebrate Easter!

But there was much that led up to His great gift.  He was wrongly accused, beaten, deserted by his close friends and finally crucified because of his commitment to God and his love for all of us.  But his willingness to walk through that pain allows us to find new life in Him!

Have you ever wondered if there might be more to life?  Have you ever asked, "Is this all there is?"  It's possible you have yet to discover some of what life in Jesus really means, because Jesus came that we might have "life and have it abundantly."

On Easter we will start a series about what is possible because of Jesus' sacrifice for each of us.  We'll talk about how we can discover more of what Jesus passionately longs to give to us.

Join us this week as we walk again the journey of Jesus.

READY FOR A CHALLENGE? For the past several weeks, we have been talking about the Lord’s Prayer as a roadmap to a more authentic relationship with God and others. The topics have been pretty mild, but not this week! Are you ready for a challenge? A big challenge? We are going to talk about forgiveness. This has been a major part of religion from the very beginning. How do we re-establish our relationship with God after we have messed up? How do we forgive ourselves? How do we forgive other people? And is Jesus really serious when he says that we have to forgive others if God is going to forgive us? Think you are ready for this? Come this weekend and find out! See you in worship! Blessings, Marv Vose P. S. We got to give a yellow ribbon back to Chris Johnson, who just returned from a tour to Iraq. What a great celebration. And we plan to give back another yellow ribbon this week! I love to return yellow ribbons. Please click on the word "Newsletter."  It's right above this.  Please!

If you are reading this now, you probably did NOT click on Newsletter.  I know it can be scary to click on a new button, but this one will do great things.  It will take you to our monthly, church newsletter called the Communicator.  And it really does have incredible information in it!

In this March issue, you will find all of the pictures of our new members!  You may want to invite them to your small group or Sunday school class or UMW or UMM.  This is a great way to help folks become more a part of our community.  There's pictures and information about our fantastic Children's Ministry!  You can read and see what our youth are doing in Student's Ministry and what is being planned.  And let me tell you there is lots!

And then there is all of the news stretching from Anna Circle to Habitat for Humanity, to Sages and UMW!

What a great way to keep up on what is happening at church!  Now are you ready to click on "Newsletter?"

Blessings on your week,

Marv Vose

And don't miss worship this weekend!  We'll be returning a Yellow Ribbon, the children from MMO and Pre-school will sing and we'll receive new members.  What a weekend!

Pastor's E-Letter

What a spectacular week of weather we have had!  I hope you have had a chance to get out and enjoy!

We are well into the season of Lent.  Our Lenten prayer studies have kicked off and around 100 of you are delving deeper into prayer with us.  In our Daily Message Bible readings, we have finally finished reading Leviticus and about all of the sacrifices in the Temple (all that blood - ick!)...I don't know about you, but I am enjoying being in the book of Hebrews now.

This weekend we are going to continue our sermon series "Roadmap to Relationship" and study more about the Lord's Prayer and how that leads us into a relationship with God.  I think you'll resonate with some of what we talk about in worship this weekend.

As always, the music and the fellowship will be great this weekend.  We don't want you to miss out on any of it.

We look forward to seeing you all in worship.

Blessings to you,

Kirsten

P.S.  By the way, this weekend is the official Scouting recognition weekend.  We'll be recognizing our Scouts (Boys, Girls, Adventure Crew, etc.) in worship.  So, if you are in Scouting we invite you to wear your uniform to worship this weekend.
