Minister: Marcus Carlson
- Today we finish up looking at what the Books of the Bible tell us about Jesus
- We have looked at Matthew & Jesus heritage, Mark and Jesus’ action, Luke, and his passion for the least, last, and lost
- Today we look at the gospel of John and next week finish with the birth story
- John is my favorite gospel because in many ways it is easy to read. He is what the Bible calls the disciple Jesus loved (cool name)
- Today I want to do this a bit differently and have some folks to help me.
- We are going to examine a very important scene in John and so imagine that we are here, and that I am John and this is Jesus and his 12 disciples.
- This happens right after the last supper (what communion is modeled after) where Jesus has just finished telling them about his departure and the betrayal. This is a meal with friends, his last meal with these close friends. In this culture meals are very intimate and sacred.
- Read John 13:1-30 The Message
- Close book, into character…
- Marcus Monologe here…
- Up and out
- A simple moment…a deeply intimate moment and yet it is all Jesus desires for us. It is what he craves…a deep intimacy with us
- Thank participants and have them sit
- I want to move to a more personal time with God…
- So find a spot by yourself (can stay in seats…need to stay in room) and spend some time in silence with God. Imagine yourself on the lap of Jesus
- Take your time. I will close in prayer, but you are welcome to stay where you are and continue to have personal time with God. We will start worship, and you are welcome to worship to stay in your spot, to move to stations.
